Tradegy Strikes The Ultimates.

It is with great sadness that we inform the Sprint Car racing fraternity in South Africa, and indeed worldwide that Sarel Brandt, aged 43, from Vereeniging, was tragically killed in a car accident on the way back from the Sprint Car race meeting in Richardsbay this past weekend.

The 1st of November will always be remembered within the Ultimates family as a day of great tragedy for we lost a very good friend, family member and race driver. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife Theresa and their two boys Deihandre (8) and Leander (4), as well as the Brandt and Newman families.

According to reports Sarel Brandt tried to avoid a collision, when a reckless driver was overtaking another vehicle about 60 kilometres before Vryheid on Sunday 1 November 2009. In his attempt to overt a head on collision Sarel Brandt lost control of his own vehicle, Sarel went over the barrier and struck a tree resulting in the fatal accident that cost him his life.

The members of the club are devastated by this tragic loss and wish to convey their condolences to Sarel Brandt’s family.  Spokes lady, Liza van Zyl said “We will always remember Sarel for the great person he was always ready with a joke or two and always helpful. Sarel always looked out for someone else, this time a stranger and it cost him his life. It is ironic that he was safer in his race car than on our public roads. We will miss you dearly my friend! Your "Ultimates" family members”
