News coverage of Sprintcar racing in South Africa
Apologies if this was posted twice and if so, could Admin kindly delete one them?
I am the publisher of Sprintcar Daily in Australia. Firstly, I am very pleased to find that sprintcar racing is still alive in you part of the world!
Sprintcar Daily is an international sprintcar newspaper published out of Sydney. We have been in existence for about four years and are approaching 2 million page visits, so it is fair to say that it is one of the biggest sprintcar publications in the world. Our readership is spread equally between the USA and Australia, with a sprinkling from New Zealand and Canada.
We'd be delighted to start covering SA sprintcar racing in our publication, but we need a point of contact to assist with news and photos from your country. Anyone who can assist with this should contact me on weicha@bigpond.net.au .
We certainly can put SA sprintcar racing on the map internationally almost overnight. Out readership includes pretty much all of the key industry people in the USA and Australia.
A bit about sprintcar racing in Australia. Sprintcars is the number one code in speedway here. We run 410-winged on clay (there are no asphalt speedways here). There is also some 360 racing on a smaller scale in some states.
We have around 400 registered teams. Sydney (Parramatta City Raceway) is the hotbed with around 60 sprintcars in the pits for the weekly meeting. Brisbane gets around 35 cars, in Victoria they get around 45 cars, in Adelaide around 30 and Perth also around 30. They also race in Tasmania where the car count is generally a little over 20 and then there is also racing in the Northern Territory and North Queensland.
The racing season is from September - April. Our international season is late December to end of January when around 30 Americans race here, including pretty much the entire World of Outlaws squad.
I hope we can assist each other and who knows, maybe down the line we can arrange for some of your drivers to race here?
Kind regards,
Andre Weich, Executive Editor, Sprintcar Daily

Sprintcar Daily
Hi All,
I am pleased to announce that I have written and sent off my biography as the writer that is going to represent South Africa in the Sprintcar Daily Newspaper. This is such a great way to get South African Oval track racing/motorsport noticed on an International level.
My next project I have to do is the following:
Track History in SA
Sprintcar History in SA
Midget (Supers and Std) History in SA
Please guys if you can help me with any info regarding the above, please put it together and mail it to me on spoiledbrat17@vodamail.co.za or fax to 011 908-5634 and mark it attention: Liza.
I already have a bit of info gathered of the internet and with the help of some of the older drivers, but any info is welcome no matter how relavant it may or may not be... Looking forward to your input!
Regards
Liza

Hi Andre
I very much appreciate your entry to the forum. This site was designed and is maintained by us for The Ultimates. They are all currently in the USA on a friendly race meeting.
The guys are mostly not yet too familiar with the power of the Internet, but I will draw attention to your entry with Liza van Zyl who updates content on the site.
I am sure she will be in contact with you soon
Thank you once again for your kind comments.
best regards
Fred
Hi Fred, Thanks for getting
Hi Fred,
Thanks for getting back to me. Are your guys racing with the AVSS in the States? They are the only sprintcar organisation running on asphalt that I know of. If so I'll get hold them and see if I can get some reports and photos from the meeting.
I have googled quite extensively to research speedway in South Africa but there does not appear to be a heck of a lot available on the net. Any chance someone over there could pen an introductory article to sketch the SA speedway landscape, eg the main classes, major events and in particular the international classes such as sprintcars, midgets, late models etc? Particular emphasis on the Ultimates off-course.
I noticed that your midgets (known as speedcars here) seem to have wings? Ours is the same as the USA such as Chili Bowl and USAC midgets, i.e. non-wing. We have a midget style class with wings - F-500.
It would be fantastic if we could have a South Africa correspondent to supply as with news and photos. If anyone (perhaps Lisa???) wants to volunteer, we'd be glad to give SA a good deal of coverage.
If she agrees, perhaps she can send me a bio of herself along with some photos so we can introduce her to our readers.
Perhaps we can do a weekly column from South Africa?
Kind regards... Andre
