Construction......How?

Ok, I've got an engine.....
I like what I see.....
These cars look interesting, but what would I need to pack this little 1600 engine into to also go play around here?
Would my limited welding experience be enough to put together a chassis?
Are there any construction articles?, how to? 's

Am I dreaming pies in the sky or is there someone who can help me.......um....call me a noob.....to step gently into this world?

Later every one

Dr Coffee request

Hi Dr Coffee sorry for the late reply, Unfortunately you cannot run a 1600 engine in these chasis... If you google Sprint Cars you will get all the answers you need to build a Sprint Car. They only run with V8 engines. And mostly only Chevy 360's or 410 engines. The chasis are made from chromolly steel which comes only from the USA and to get someone that can weld it here is very difficult. We just buy the complete chasis from the USA and ship freight them to South Africa. A chasis will set you back anything from about $1500 (R13000.00) to about $5000 (R47 000.00) new. The engines we also like to import direct from the USA because then they have all the nesseccary goodies in it allready... A engine will cost you between $6500 (R60 000.00) to about $43000 (R400 000.00). If you convert that with the current exchange rate it is very costly! But go to the following website and read up some more about Sprint Cars and their prices... www.hoseheads.com

You could look to build a sloon car or hotrod if you want to run the 1600 engine.
Let me know if you need assistance

Mmmmmm.... indeed at present

Mmmmmm.... indeed at present I only have a dream to play with.....The prices here seem to be a little out of my reach for the moment.

I'll have to and will at this point in time settle for going to some events and see what goes.....hopefully a racer will allow me to polish a small part of his car.

You speak of "chromolly" steel chassis, it sounds a special type of metal, Has anyone thought of getting the equipment needed to work with this metal into our country?

I know of some shops around here that do market V6's and V8's but even thier prices are quite high.

When is the next event?
Where may I come look at one or two of these cars?..mmm...somewhere where I would be allowed close enough to sit in it, walk around it, touch it.

Till later

Next event

We have met

Hi everyone,
Hi Liza

It was an honor to meet you, yes, I’m for real. The questions I asked are real questions, I obviously know nothing of the cars we discuss here, the engine I do have and OK, I know it is minute to what is required, but, well, …. Um….. I have an engine…..

For all others reading this, this web site has been built for you, use it.
Make this site where discussions are formed, recorded, and held. New people will be able to pick up on what the hobby is all about by “listening” to your discussions. They will feel less intimidated about asking questions here. More than one person's answer can be given to any question.

I had the privilege of hearing the adrenaline generating sound made by these cars and know that when I get to a race meet, I’m going to be walking around with goose bumps allover me.

Have a great weekend

Continue the construction......

At present I have found out that the chassis has to be imported......

The engine has to be big, can be sourced here in South Africa but would probable be better to get it from overseas.

Question: What else is there to be done?....tying a few nuts and bolts down?

                                                                 .....painting?

.....normal bits of servicing and tuning

                                                                      before a race?

Just thinking

When one of these cars are involved in an accident, how does it get fixed?

Surely there must be some way of repairing structural damage or is the chassis replaced or sent back overseas to be repaired?

What I'm thinking, if we can repair structural damage here, why not import the material in raw form and just contruct a chassis here?

Would that not be less expensive than buying and importing the chassis?
